Older pumps can have internal wear, such as wearing of the impeller vanes. This can result in low pressure output. Alternatively there may be a blockage in the pump. It is possible to replace worn parts to increase pressure and improve pumping performance.
The slow loss of pressure will cause a pump to keep running then turning off so to maintain a constant pressure. A dripping tap or slow leak will cause this.
